Charity Distances Itself From Kanye West After Twitter Feud With Kim Kardashian
It's hard trying to keep up with Kimye...
If you've scrolled through Twitter recently and noticed Kim Kardashian's timeline being an absolute dumpster fire of a mess, you may have a few questions regarding WTF is going on.
Well settle in, because we now have answers.
Basically, back in 2011 Kanye West co-founded a Chicago-based non-profit organisation Donda's House with Che ‘Rhymefest’ Smith and Donnie Smith which aimed to provide access to the arts for Chicago's youth. It was named after West's mother, Dr. Donda West, who died in 2007.
After coming under scrutiny following ‘Ye’s pro-Trump tweets last Friday, Donda's House issued a statement distancing themselves from West.
“While we cannot and do not speak for Kanye West and his views, we can and will speak up for the youth that we serve. We ask that those who feel hurt, angered by or frustrated with Kanye West not penalise or throw away their support, respect and advocacy for us... We do not want your rejection of Kanye West, to be a rejection of Dr. Donda West and the thousands of lives she impacted including her own son.”
After revealing that Kanye had failed to fulfil his promise in financing projects for the charity, Kim Kardashian was quick to hit back at Rhymefest in a flurry of sassy Tweets, accusing him of everything from “failing to sustain” the organisation to using her husband’s name for attention.
"You better believe I will make it my mission to take Donda’s House from you and let my children run it the way it should be run! @RHYMEFEST," she added, finishing up the rant by apologising to her followers “flooding my timeline [because] I know you have no idea who Rhymefest is.”
Not willing to remain silent among the shade-throwing, Rhymefest posted a lengthy letter to Kim, calling her out for having "never spoken" to the Executive Director, and offered to dissolve the charity if she and Kanye wished to take over.
"I encourage you instead of attacking me personally, to Google us," Rhymefest wrote in the statement.
"Watch the videos on our YouTube channel featuring our work and come actually speak to the young people who have actually been involved in our program before you, in your position of privilege from God knows where in the world, via social media attempt to dismantle this valued community asset," he added.
Following the bitter Twitter spat, the organisation released a statement saying that they would be dropping the name "Donda’s House".
“Due to recent events that have occurred over the last 48 hours, we have decided to no longer use the name Donda's House Inc. This has been an incredibly difficult decision but the social media quotes from Kim Kardashian West, as well as the expressed interest of her family running the organisation, has brought us to this decision."
"Over the last five years we have put our students and our community first," they continued, "We encourage Kim and Kanye to indeed pick up the baton of service".
Kim later decided to "break down" their side of things regarding Kanye's history with the charity, claiming that due to financial strain, 'Ye handed the charity over to Rhymefest to run on his own, and reiterated that she would always "ride for her man".
Surprisingly, there’s been no comment as of yet from Kanye, who’s usually all for a good old fashioned Twitter rant.
Phew. Keeping up with the Kimye's is harder than we thought...
