YouTube Admits Last Year's Rewind Reel Was Complete Trash
YouTube has released its annual 'Rewind' mashup of the year's most memorable online videos -- and it's nothing like the last one.
In 2018, the platform experimented with a format that was nearly universally detested. Last year's 'Everyone Controls Rewind' clip still ranks as the site's most hated video, attracting 17.23 million dislikes and counting.
This year, they weren't going to repeat the same mistake.
"In 2018, we made something you didn't like," the video platform acknowledged in its new 2019 wrap clip, 'For The Record'.
Instead of copping the further wrath of millions of angry viewers, YouTube decided to play it safe with this year's wrap-up, sharing some simple top 10 countdowns of the best videos from creators, musicians, influencers, gamers, and dancers.
Clips from Shane Dawson, James Charles (yep, 'No More Lies') and Black Gryphon all scored mentions for being among the most liked Creator videos, while Lil Nas X, Ariana Grande, and Billie Eilish were named in the most liked music videos list.
K-Pop stars including Blackpink and BTS (ft.Halsey) scored the third and second spots in the top 10, with Camila Cabelo and Shawn Mendes' "Senorita" claiming the most likes (13.5 million).
The clip doesn't seem to be as widely hated as last year's choose your own adventure mashup -- although it's attracted a pretty unfavourable ratio of likes to dislikes, currently sitting on a whopping 6.2 million thumbs down to 2.6 million thumbs up.
