Ed Sheeran Confirms His Marriage After Months Of Speculation
The pop singer confirmed to U.S. radio star Charlamagne Tha God on Friday that he and long-time girlfriend Cherry Seaborn have tied the knot.
In the YouTube interview promoting his new album No.6 Collaborations Project, Sheeran talked about writing the song “Remember the Name,” which refers to “my wife.”
"Watch how the lyrics in the songs might get twisted / My wife wears red, but looks better without the lipstick," the snippet goes.
Sheeran said he wrote the lyric before the couple were officially man and wife, but he "knew that we'd be married by the point that the song came out".
"Someone's gonna hear that and be like, 'Oh, they're married!' I didn't know how that would be construed, but obviously it's already out," Sheeran said.
Prior to the song's debut, British media claimed the lovebirds had wed before Christmas in front of about 40 friends and family.
The Sun reported the ceremony and small reception were held at Sheeran's property in Suffolk, north-east of London.
Sheeran announced he and Seaborn were engaged in January last year. "Got myself a fiancé (sic) just before new year," the singer wrote on Instagram.
The couple has known each other since primary school, but only became romantic in 2015 when they attended Taylor Swift's annual Fourth of July party together.
“[Seaborn] worked on Wall Street, and I had like six shows [around New York in 2015]. It was around then, and we reconnected. I went on tour again, and then I went to Taylor’s [Swift] Fourth of July party," Sheeran told People.
Sheeran asked Swift if it was alright if he invited his school pal to the bash as she was also in Rhode Island at the time, and the rest is history.
During his YouTube chat, the singer opened up about being in love with Seaborn and being shocked she chose him despite “all of the things I think are wrong with me”.
"I constantly wake up every day with Cherry and I’m just like ‘Why the f*** are you with me? You could literally be with whoever you want and you’ve chosen me…’ I just find that amazing.”
Released Friday, Sheeran's No.6 Collaborations Project includes collaborations with Justin Bieber, Stormzy, Eminem, 50 Cent and Bruno Mars.
