Tumblr Traffic Has Tanked Since Porn Ban In December

It looks like Tumblr's ban on adult content has hit the platform hard (lol), with the site's traffic falling by close to 30 percent since December.

According to data obtained by SimilarWeb, in December, Tumblr had an estimated 520 million visits, which dropped to 436 million in January and then 369 million in February.

The ban on adult images originally came as a response to Tumblr's iOS app being pulled from the Apple App Store after child pornography was found on the platform.

But rather than cracking down specifically images of minors, Tumblr instead banned all pornography and sexually explicit content, with the social platform announcing that all “photos, videos, or GIFs that show real-life human genitals or female-presenting nipples” would be removed from the site from December 17, 2018.

Users within Tumblr's NSFW community criticised the ban, and many of its users to participate in a “log off” protest which encouraged others to leave Tumblr.

And it seems, given by recent numbers, the plan worked. Meanwhile, users have since mourned the slow death of the once-popular platform over other forms of social media.

Despite the backlash and overwhelming evidence that December's ban has greatly affected their traffic, Tumblr has shown no indication of backing down on the policy.
