Bachelor In Paradise's Samuel Cochrane And Tara Pavlovic Announce Breakup

Our favourite couple has officially called it quits.

Bachelor in Paradise's Samuel Cochrane and Tara Pavlovic have officially ended their engagement and broken up.

Cochrane took to social media on Saturday to share the news that the couple had indeed ended their relationship, saying he was heartbroken that his relationship with Tara had come to an end.

"The fairytale that I took part in was deep and surreal. My proposal was meant to be forever but life sometimes takes you away from the dream and you wake up," Cochrane wrote in a lengthy Instagram post.

"So…deep breath.... this has come to an end. I loved Tara with my whole heart and those two people in Fiji fell completely. It’s hard writing this thinking back to those moments."

The 34 year old thanked everyone for their support and said the decision to call off the relationship hadn't been an easy one, adding it was "the saddest thing for me to come to terms with".

He continued, "Watching something you valued fall apart and what you love follow a different path is one of the most difficult things. My heart feels broken and obviously having it play out in public adds so many difficult dimensions.

"I forgot about the cameras in Fiji and I simply fell in love. The truth is difficult but the path ahead will show the way.

"Obviously there has been speculation for some time but I needed to know for sure before making anything public. That has been hard."

Cochrane, who we first met on Sophie Monk's season of The Bachelorette, said "everything happens for a reason" and, although the time he and Pavlovic spent together was short, she would "always hold a beautiful and difficult place in my heart".

"I got to see that love is real and powerful.... and it is. I’ll find it again."

The news comes only weeks after speculation the couple had gone their separate ways after they unfollowed each other on Instagram -- a telltale sign of a fading relationship.

However, the couple was quick to shutdown those rumours, with Pavlovic taking to social media and sharing a "happy snap" of  the pair cuddling in bed together, with a caption that said, "stop stressing".

The couple was also seemingly all smiles at number of public outings, including a recent charity event for the Red Cross in Sydney.

It wasn't long after Cochrane's post that Pavlovic too shared a message about the breakup with her fans on Instagram, saying they didn't want to make it public until they were sure they had made the right decision.

"I don't want anyone to think that we 'faked' anything or that what you saw on TV wasn't real. What we felt was 100% real and we both put our best efforts in to make it work in the real world but unfortunately for different reasons it didn't work out," she wrote.

The 27 year old added that she loved Sam very much and wished him "nothing but the best".

"I know many of you will be sad but please don't be upset as this was for the best. Everything happens for a reason and I'm sure this will all make more sense down the track," she wrote.

Pavlovic thanked her fans and continued to say that although the decision had been a difficult one, there was positivity to be found in every situation.

"Thank you to all of my family and friends who have been such a ray of sunshine throughout this last couple of weeks. And thank you everyone else for being such a huge support to Sam and I throughout our journey together," she wrote.

Sam and Tara -- who were both former Bachelor and Bacherlotte contestants trying to win the hearts of Matty J and Sophie Monk respectively -- fell in love during the first season of The Bachelor in Paradise and got engaged during the show's finale.
