One Of Your Avengers Faves Probably Won't Make It Out Of Infinity War Alive
Avenger? I hardly know her.
It's finally here. Yes, Avengers: Infinity War is upon us and if you're a fan you might want to get into see this one and ASAP. Why? Well, it's good and also, word is that some of the key cast members may never be seen again - at least not in the Marvel Cinematic Universe anyway.
The reason for that is thus - cast members including Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans have contracts that wrap up in the very near future. And you know what that means ... unless some big money changes hands and contracts are again locked down those particular actors might just fly off into the Hollywood sunset.
Unfortunately, we'll just have to wait and see. In the meantime, let's look at this latest flick and exactly what it's about.
Infinity War introduces the long-teased villain of Thanos, a despot intent on collecting the six Infinity Stones giving his Infinity Gauntlet the ability exterminate half of the universe. Basically the big bad wants some gorgeous jewels to make his evil glove more powerful. Things aren't looking good for our heroes.
In the decade since they first launched the MCU there has been few deaths amongst the heroes we've come to know and love.
Sure Aaron Taylor-Johnson's Quicksilver died as a result of Avengers: Age of Ultron but that was probably because no one was really sold on the terrible accent he was doing.
Quicksilver also spent most of Age of Ultron as an agitator, not a fully-fledged member of the Avengers. However, Infinity War teasers seem to suggest that there might not just be one hero biting the dust ... indeed, there could be major changes set into play resulting in the termination of SEVERAL big players.
But it is in fact Captain America (Evans), Iron Man (Downey Jr) and Thor (Hemsworth) who are the most likely to get the chop. Or, that's what the rumour mill suggests.
Luckily, Marvel is mad for green-lighting sequels years ahead so what we DO know is the following should all be safe, at least until the currently untitled Avengers 4. Spider-Man, Ant-Man, Black Panther and Doctor Strange are all the titular roles in upcoming sequels so we can safely assume they'll pull through.
Meanwhile the Guardians of the Galaxy are also looking at a third film in the series HOWEVER the Guardians feature Thanos' two adopted daughters Nebula (Karen Gillan) and Gamora (Zoe Saldana) may not be a part of the action. Unfortunately for Nebula she was stuck on that ~ tortured villain who'll do anything for daddy's approval ~ path for a while, which could be her ultimate undoing.
Another ~pretty doomed~ character would be the android Vision (Paul Bettany). Despite his burgeoning romance with Scarlet Witch (Elisabeth Olsen), Vision has one teeny tiny problem when it comes to Thanos' plan to grab all the Infinity Stones: he has one stuck to his forehead.
Yep, Vis is probably not in the bet spot considering Thanos will stop at nothing to grab them stones.
It'll be an incredible moment in the MCU regardless. There's never really been a cinematic event like this, bringing together so many threads and -- if the rumours are to be believed -- culminating in events that change the course and direction of Marvel's films.
Avengers: Infinity War opens in cinemas April 25.
