Dockers Ruckman Aaron Sandilands Announces Retirement
Dockers ruckman Aaron Sandilands has announced he will retire at the end of the 2019 AFL season.
After 18 years, the 36-year will farewell the Purple Army at Optus Stadium when the Dockers host Essendon on Saturday Night.
At 211 centimetres tall, the star veteran is the tallest player in the AFL and is the competition's all-time leader in hit-outs.
He will finish his career having played 270 games for the club – the third-most appearances for the Dockers – only trailing only Matthew Pavlich (353 games) and David Mundy (currently on 314).
Sandilands said it had been a frustrating year keeping up with the physical demands of the game.
“It’s all over and I’ve decided to retire. It’s obviously been a good journey but it’s my time to hang up the boots and move on to something else in life, he said.

“It’s been a really frustrating year in terms of not being able to play enough footy. The body is at the point now where I can’t get enough kms in the legs to be fit enough.”
Sandilands is looking forward to saying "one last thank you" to his fans on Saturday night.
“To be able to go out there on Saturday night and say one last thank you to all the fans, who have been riding the highs and lows along the way as well, it will be pretty special.”
