Police Reeling In Thief Who Used Fishing Rod To Steal Designer Jewellery

Victoria Police released CCTV of the burglary on Little Collins Street in Melbourne in a bid to catch an alleged necklace thief hook, line and sinker.

The alleged theft occured at a high-end fashion store last month with Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit detectives now asking the public to help identify the man.

Police have released security footage which shows a man removing a Versace necklace from a mannequin inside the store using a fishing rod.

The crime occurred just after 2am but it took almost three hours for the thief to reel in the jewels.

The man appears to be between 40 and 50 years old, about 180cm tall and Caucasian in appearance, with short, fair receding hair.

At the time of the crime he was wearing grey tracksuit pants with a blue Lonsdale windcheater.
