A man in high-vis clothing allegedly threw a plastic bag of poo at a Melbourne bus driver, splattering the inside of the vehicle, Victoria Police claim.

Officers from Victoria Police's Transit Safety Division are investigating the incident, which happened in Melbourne's north a fortnight ago.

A bus driving through the suburb of Wollert, about 25 kilometres north of the Melbourne CBD, pulled up at a stop on Harvest Home Rd about 9.40pm on November 13.

Police allege a man wearing a yellow high-vis jumper walked up to the door and threw a plastic bag of faeces at the bus driver.

"Sections of the bus interior were also impacted but no passengers were affected."

The man allegedly ran off and has not been found.

Police are now asking the public for assistance.

The offender is said to be Caucasian, aged between 30 and 40, with a medium height and build, and fair complexion and beard.

CCTV vision of the man showed him wearing a beige beanie, a yellow and black hi-vis jumper with its hood up, and dark pants with a white stripe down each leg.
