Police have rushed to the centre of Sydney, after several young men scaled a giant communications tower -- and took selfies.

Two people dressed in black climbed to the top of the 110-metre AWA Tower, on York Street in Sydney's CBD, on Monday afternoon.

Pedro Cruz, a witness who watched the incident unfold from a nearby office tower just before 5pm, claimed the people were taking pictures at the summit.

He told 10 daily that the climbers appeared to have got to the top without harnesses or any other safety gear.

A NSW Police spokesperson said two juveniles were involved in the incident.

The pair were taken into custody after Police Rescue helped retrieve them from the building.
