Police have released shocking footage of a dangerous pursuit of an allegedly stolen car which ended in five teenagers being charged after a foot pursuit.

The hair-raising vision shows a number of police cars chasing a blue Toyota as it drives erratically, leaving the road and speeding along a grass median strip.

Eventually, several police cars jammed the vehicle in a suburban Mackay street.

Police arrested the driver and three rear passengers, but allege the front passenger of the vehicle escaped into nearby bush land. A police dog tracked the escapee, the boy later receiving medical treatment for a minor dog bite and being arrested.

The incident started on Tuesday in Townsville, when a car was allegedly stolen from an address in Kirwan.

On Wednesday, police received a number of calls just after 7am regarding a car driving dangerously on the Bruce Highway. An hour later, police spotted the car still travelling south on the highway, and attempted to pull it over.
