Woman Steals Car With Child Inside, Crashes Into Tree
A Victorian woman has been arrested after allegedly stealing a car with a two-year-old child inside.
The child and car were reported missing to police at about 6.30pm on Saturday in Mildura, in the state's northwest.
The car had been parked in a drive-through at a bottle shop when it was taken.
The car was found about 20 minutes later after it had crashed into a tree. The child was found safe and uninjured inside.
The girl was checked over by paramedics and reunited with her family.
It is alleged the woman, 33, entered a house on the same street she had allegedly abandoned the car on.
She then allegedly assaulted a man, 56, inside the home with a frying pan, causing minor injuries to his face.
She was arrested and taken to hospital, where she was discharged on Sunday morning.
The woman has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, false imprisonment, child stealing, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, trespass, assault with a weapon and traffic-related offences.
She was remanded in custody and will appear at Mildura Magistrates' Court on Monday.
