Bystanders 'Watched, Did Nothing' As Car Burst Into Flames, Didn't Know Toddler Was Inside
A witness to a car fire that tragically left a two-year-old girl dead in regional WA has claimed she saw a group of bystanders watching on and "doing nothing" as flames engulfed the vehicle.
Emergency services were called to the car fire in Kununurra, about 3,200km north-east of Perth, just after 7am on Sunday.
Police said it was only when they extinguished the flames that they found the child deceased inside the vehicle. Witnesses to the car fire were also reportedly unaware a child was trapped inside.
The victim is yet to be formally identified, but is believed to be a two-year-old girl.
Arson squad detectives visited the site on Sunday to investigate the cause of the fire. Early investigations have led police to treat it as non-suspicious and they are calling for witnesses.

It is believed the young girl had been playing with another child inside the vehicle at the time of the fire. The second child managed to escape the car unharmed.
One witness told The West Australian she saw about six people standing around the vehicle while it was ablaze.
“It was close to 7am and I just passed it, I just saw maybe six people standing around it doing nothing,” she said.
“They definitely watched the car, they weren’t screaming or trying to do something."
The woman said she did not realise anyone was inside the burning vehicle, and was shocked to learn the young girl had died.
She reportedly went on to report the fire to police.
