Police have charged a 36-year-old woman who allegedly spray-painted a series of messages to a person named 'Chris' across public places.

People in the Melbourne suburb of Frankston were shocked to find graffiti covering barbecues, toilet doors and entire walls on Tuesday, urging 'Chris' to "talk 2 me b4 baby is born or don't bother after".

Police allege property in a number of locations in the CBD was vandalised between July 29 and 30.

Officers on Wednesday arrested the 36-year-old woman, who was already on bail. Police confirmed to 10 News First she has still not heard from 'Chris'.

The woman was charged with criminal damage, wilful damage and marking graffiti and bailed to appear in court on December 13.

A spokesperson for the council said it had acted quickly and removed all the graffiti from the affected areas, and 'would encourage those involved to consider more constructive, and less illegal ways of communicating in the future.'

"I hope Chris and this mystery person can work through their issues, and in the future, refrain from undertaking illegal activities that bear a cost to ratepayers,” Frankston City Mayor Michael O’Reilly said.
