Measles Case Hits Perth's CBD

A Perth measles diagnosis has prompted a warning for city-dwellers to watch for symptoms of the contagious disease.

Authorities stated on Friday the person may have been infectious while in the city, between Sunday and Wednesday visiting a major supermarket, going to libraries at two universities, travelling on bus routes 950, 100 and 101 and the Mandurah train.

"Measles virus survives less than two hours in the air or on objects and surfaces and is inactivated rapidly in the presence of sunlight or heat," communicable diseases senior medical advisor Professor Paul Effler said.

"Anyone who has had a potential exposure to measles, and who develops a fever with these other symptoms should see a doctor".
