Mayday At Sydney Airport As United 787 Issues Fuel Warning
Police launched a full emergency response at Sydney Airport this morning after a United Airlines flight issued a mayday call.
Flight UA839 arriving from Los Angeles signaled it was low on fuel at about 6am.
The 787-900 Dreamliner carrying 239 passengers landed safely shortly after.
A spokesperson for Airservices Australia said plane systems issued a low fuel warning, which automatically triggered a mayday response.

Earlier reports that the emergency was sparked by leaking dry ice on board are incorrect -- authorities confirmed that while the plane was carrying dry ice, it was unrelated to incident.
Officials wouldn't comment on how or why the plane's fuel was low.
Police closed major roads surrounding the airport as a precaution, but they were reopened about 6.40am.
