A baby girl's parents who performed CPR after finding their daughter unresponsive the day after she was brought home from hospital are urging all parents to learn the life-saving skill.

Miray Fleehan was born perfectly healthy and went home with her parents the following day.

The whole family came over to celebrate, but when they looked into her bassinet, she was unresponsive.

"She was completely blue. Hands were blue. Mouth was open. Eyes were wide open. Just looking straight ahead,’’ said Miray’s mother Rola Naddaf.

Her husband, Danial Flehan, quickly grabbed his little girl and performed a whole minute of compressions on her tiny day-and-a-half-old body.

"I start doing CPR for her and she's not responding, it was really hard,’’ Mr Flehan said through tears.

"I kept going then she came back....then she went again.’’

He revived her again and then rushed her to hospital where doctors found Miray had an attack of apnea -- a sleep-related breathing disorder.

If it had happened at night, she would likely have died a SIDS baby.

"The doctors, you could hear them saying 'where's the hero dad that saved his daughter'? They wanted to meet him and congratulate him on doing such great job,’’ Mrs Naddaf said.

Now three months old, Miray is still connected to a constant supply of oxygen as a precaution.

Danial had done a first aid course because he owns a cafe, and he’s now urging all parents to go and get training.

Women’s and Children’s Hospital CPR trainer Jennifer Gillis says there are differences in performing CPR on a baby compared to an adult - the biggest is the fear factor.

"For babies it may be more confronting, and the pressures that you use and the breaths you use are different, so I would recommend that parents do training specifically for babies,’’ she said.
