Explosive Device Rips Through Family Home As Police Hunt Culprits

A family home in Melbourne's southeast has been significantly damaged after an explosive device crashed through the roof.

The missile was lit at a park near Hillview Drive in Carrum Downs at about 5pm on August 28.

Seconds after the device was propelled into the sky, it crashed through the roof of a home roughly 150 metres away,  Victoria police confirmed.

The impact caused extensive damage to the roof tiles, ceiling and also the inside of the house.

Two people were home at the time, but while they were left shaken, both escaped injury.

On Friday, police released images of two people who they believe could help with the investigation.

The man is described as Caucasian in appearance, approximately 180cm tall with a medium build.

He was wearing dark pants and a grey long-sleeved hoodie at the time.

The woman is also described as Caucasian in appearance with a medium build and long hair tied in a ponytail.

She was wearing a dark hoodie, jeans and tanned boots at the time.
