Frustrated Commonwealth Bank customers are struggling through an IT issue bringing down online services and apps, and forcing some branches to close entirely.

Users are experiencing issues with the CommBank online app, NetBank, Bpay and CommBiz services.  Cardless cash, in-branch and call centre services, and some debit card payments may also be impacted

The outage was first reported about midday AEDT on Thursday. By 1pm, the bank advised that "some of our branches" had been forced to "temporarily" close due to the issue.

The bank only advised of an undisclosed "issue", and has not detailed the nature of the trouble.

As of 2pm, CBA was telling affected customers on Twitter that "we are currently experiencing an issue affecting some of our services."

"We are urgently investigating this and we’re sorry for any inconvenience caused. We will provide further updates here," read a stock reply to numerous people on Twitter.

Many customers have been unable to transfer funds, leaving some stuck in stores, mid-purchase.

Comm Bank confirmed that in-store payments and ATM's are still working as normal but admitted there was a variety of services unavailable.

"We are currently experiencing an issue affecting some of our services," the bank tweeted.

"We are urgently investigating this and we’re sorry for any inconvenience caused. We will provide further updates here."

More to come.
